Here you can learn how to fix your credit record and remove any unwanted files that you need cleaned up.

How to fix the information that is held on your credit record!

We Will Start With The Electoral Roll...

If you vote in the U.K, you should be on record by your local council and registered on the electoral roll. This information will show a credit lender you live at this address and long for, when they credit check you. You can also do this manually if you have just moved house by filling in a electoral registration form at your local council office.

The council will update this information and they will let the credit reference agencies about your new address. This information is usually updated once a year around February.

Having County Court Judgements On Your Record

If a county court judgement has been placed on your record for no reason, you can have it removed by following the right procedure.

The first thing you should do is contact the county court that issued the judgement in the first place and asks them why it's on your record. Remember to get the county court judgement reference number before you approach the court, they will ask for it.

After the court solves the issue with your accidental county court judgement, the credit reference agencies are told 4 weeks after the court changes their records and that it done.

When you have paid for a Scottish Decree send the Registry Trust your receipt or the letter from your creditor, (this is know as the pursuer) to confirm your payment have been received.

You may want to write to the Registry Trust Ltd and ask them about the county court judgement on your record. They will have this information on file. On your letter, ask them for a change of entry. There is a fee for this service, it only £4.50 just to cover there admin costs.

If you live in Northern Ireland and can provide your documentation from a plaintiff, this will confirm your payment and the credit reference agencies will change your credit record with 4 weeks. You could also contact the court and ask them to look at the county court judgement and they will advise you of the best way to remove it.

Here is the Registry Trust's address if you need it...

Registry Trust Limited, 173-175 Cleveland Street, London, W1P 5PE.

About Bankruptcies

If you have a bankruptcy order against you and have just made arrangements to have it removed (if you have followed the property procedure), send a copy of the Annulment Certificate or Order of Discharge to the credit reference agencies, Equifax and Experian so they can update their records.

They should remove all records of bankruptcy and clear your file if your bankruptcy has been annulled but if your annulled record has been discharged a record of it will be kept by the credit reference agencies.

If a bankruptcy order against you is annulled (cancelled) or discharged (that is, you have met all terms), you should send a copy of the Annulment Certificate or Order of Discharge to the credit reference agencies. They will then update their records.

If your bankruptcy has been annulled they should completely remove any record of it from your file. If your bankruptcy has been discharged a record of it will be kept on your file but it will show that it has been discharged.

When it's discharged, the credit reference agencies do keep a copy of it but don’t show it when your credit checked.

Voluntary Arrangements

If you want to know about Individual voluntary arrangement you can contact the supervisor, the person who dealt with the original claim. When you get the documentation from the supervisor, send it the credit reference agencies who will then make changes to your record or credit record as soon as they can.

Your Credit Accounts

When you add up all your credit accounts, like your credit cards, store cards and your mortgage and check them against your credit record and if any parts of the file shows something wrong you should ask for a re amendment to your file. Contact the credit reference agencies to do this and get a credit report.

Credit Record Searches

When a company credit checks you when you make a credit application, a file is created by the  credit reference agencies and it kept there. If you want them removed and your concerned, you can ask the company that done the search to remove them and that's the only way to remove them.

Your Addresses - Previous and Present

All the addresses you have used to obtain credit are linked to each other and they are listed on your credit record. These links can only be removed if the company that created the link to your credit record asks the credit reference agencies to remove it.

If you have any doubt about your record, it's advised to write to the company that's on file, beside the suspected fault listing. You should also ask for details for settling disputes. You can visit the U.K Fraud Prevention Service here http://www.cifas.org.uk.

Credit Record Associations - Family and Partners - (shared financial responsibility)

If your record file shows a financial association from a family member or a current or ex partner, you can ask for this financial association to be separated. As long as you didn’t get into the financial relationship together. The credit reference agencies will remove the file when you write them.

They can take a few weeks to remove the file after investigating the matter. You can also ask for a disassociation between you and the other people involved.
